Class Activity 14

Susan Brashear
March 5, 2008

1. For those of you wanting to learn how to play poker or to better enhance your skills
2. You will need a deck of cards and something of value to bet with. i.e. poker chips or currency
3. The flop is the first three cards, 4th street is the four card and the river is the 5th and final card. Check is when you do not want to bet and call is when you call the bet. All in means you are betting everything you have. Side pot is when you have bet all you have and there are still players in the hand that would like to bet. The bets that they make are not eligible for the player to win. River rat is someone who is behind the entire hand and hits the card they need to win on the river. Burning a card means discarding it.
4. There can be upset players, so be aware of this. Also, you can get a paper cut from the cards.
5. What beats what, pictures of the games etc. Buying your poker chips, shuffling the cards, dealing the cards, dealing the flop, making a bet, burning a card, dealing 4th street, making a bet, burning a card, making a bet, dealing 5th street, making the bets. Calling or folding after the last card. Raising the bet.
6. I think that the reader will get confused on the part where you “burn” a card after the flop, and after 4th street. I will make sure to include graphics for these two steps.
7. The task can be carried out in the classroom.
8. Hopefully after reading my instructions you will be a better poker player. Good luck!!
